If so, how?\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>It makes it harder because unless you choose to stop it, it will play another video.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>It also suggests videos you might not have known about that you'll want to watch.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\nExplain that the people who make these apps chose to make them autoplay so that you will watch them for longer.\r\n\r\nNow ask: If you had a magic wand that could make the apps stop autoplaying videos, would that make it easier to balance time?\r\n\r\nWhat could you do to act <strong>as if <\/strong>you had used that magic wand?\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Examples: Turn off autoplay; remind yourself to stop after each video; set a timer.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\nNow have students think of different things about apps or devices that make it harder to balance your time.\r\n<div class=\"textbox textbox--exercises\"><header class=\"textbox__header\">\r\n<p class=\"textbox__title\"><strong>Prompting questions:<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n<\/header>\r\n<div class=\"textbox__content\">\r\n\r\nAre there ways besides Autoplay that apps, games or devices make it hard to turn them off?\r\n\r\nDo characters in games or apps sometimes get sad if you want to quit?\r\n\r\nDo you sometimes get reminders from apps or games if you haven't played or watched in a while?\r\n\r\nDo some apps or games promise you something new, or something special, if you come back soon or play a little longer?\r\n\r\nDo some apps or games make you feel bad if you haven't played them in a while?\r\n\r\n&nbsp;\r\n\r\n<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\nNow distribute the student handout <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1qbPg_y4OuUgZx3GW-twBtRln7W8vWze4\/view?usp=sharing\">I Wish...<\/a>\r\n\r\nHave students pick one of the ways identified in the class discussion that devices, apps or games make it hard to balance your time.\r\n\r\nUnder \"I wish,\" have them write (or draw) how they would change that if they had a magic wand.\r\n\r\nUnder \"I will,\" have them write (or draw) what they could do to act <strong>as if<\/strong> it had been changed like that.\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>With very young students, you may wish to do this as a whole-class activity.
