Titanic Search: Real Footage

The video opens with a black screen displaying the text, ‘THE ‘TITANIC’ LEAVING BELFAST BOUND FOR SOUTHAMPTON. APRIL 2nd, 1912,’ bordered by an ornate design. Next, we see a grayscale view of the Titanic docked at a pier, its massive bow dominating the frame, with men walking on the pier below. The camera zooms in slowly, revealing more details of the ship’s exterior, like its rows of portholes and the towering smokestacks.

The scene transitions to another black screen with the text, ‘BEFORE THE DISASTER. CAPTAIN SMITH ON THE BRIDGE,’ before showing a close-up of a man in a white captain’s uniform and hat, presumably Captain Smith. He turns his head to the side and back, giving a profile view. Another black screen comes up and shows C-Q-D, ‘HELP! HELP! WE ARE SINKING.’

The video then cuts to imagery of icebergs in a desolate, icy sea, accompanied by the text, ‘THE GRAVEYARD OF THE SEA. ICEBERGS AND ICEFLOES NEAR THE SCENE OF THE DISASTER.’ Following this, the video presents the ‘MARY SCULLEY’ yacht, marked as the ‘NEW YORK AMERICAN PRESS BOAT LILY LINE,’ filled with people.

We then see the ‘CARPATHIA’ nearing New York with survivors, and the large black and white ship.  The Carpathia is docked, and the video shows a group of men in suits, then moves to survivors of the Titanic’s crew and shows interviewers talking to people, followed by a large crowd of people outside the White Star offices in New York, ‘Awaiting News.’ As the camera pans up, crowds are walking on the street and up the stairs.

The ‘MACKAY BENNETT’ is then shown to be “Leaving Halifax In Search Of The Dead.’ Finally, we see men on deck and the ship sailing on water.
