Medium, Technology, Genre
We’re first presented with a digital title card that reads “Medium Technology Tool” against a white background, set within a gray, rounded-edge rectangle and above what appears to be colored circles. The circles contain a combination of aqua blue, yellow, green, dark blue, and purple colors. The word “Medium” is in large, purple text, with the phrases “Technology” and “Tool” stacked below it in white. The background contains a combination of faded light blue and green circles.
The video then cuts to a man in a blue button-down shirt standing in front of a white background, with light blue, orange, and green circles decorating it; he has short brown hair and a full, brown beard. He then displays a comic book titled “NATIONAL COMICS” which features a superhero.
Later, the video cuts to another title card that reads “GENRE” in dark blue letters, placed inside the same gray rectangle with colored circles, then lists movie genres such as “Documentary,” “Action Movie,” and “Trailer,” each marked with a bullet point.
The video then cuts to the man again; the circles in the background are the same, but the text has disappeared.
After a few more moments, the presenter holds up a blank comic layout with four boxes for drawings, and then the cover of a “AMERICA’S GREATEST” comic, which features a large group of superheroes, including Captain Marvel. The video then briefly shows a quiz symbol comprised of three speech bubbles with question marks and an exclamation point, and then graphic of a brain chess piece.
Then the text “Choice of TECHNOLOGY” appears, listing camera, computer, pen and paper. Then the phrase, “The choice of TECHNOLOGY can have a major impact on how the product is made and experienced,” appears.
Next, the video shows an image of a vintage camera being framed by a cellphone border, followed by a modern video recorder being framed by a cellphone border, followed by a cellphone and mini tripod framed by a cellphone border, followed by a young person filming from the cellphone framed by a cellphone border, with the words “PROCESS” appearing at the top of the screen.
Thereafter, the video then shows a vertical, web comic page with a person falling through the sky.
Finally, the video shows a text box that reads: “In choosing Kodu Game Lab, the teachers … shaped the kind of game construction experience that students would encounter. Kodu allowed the students to construct a particular kind of video game based on the tools and features located in the program.” The author listed is Kandise Michele Salerno, and the title is “Leveling Up: Teaching and Learning Through Video Game Construction.” The text box is set inside the same gray rectangle with colored circles.
