Media are Constructions
We’re looking at a video that starts with a blue screen featuring a white clock with blue hands and tick marks; the hand is pointing towards the 12. The clock becomes part of the title: ‘Media Minute’, and the words MEDIA are spelled out with green and white letters, followed by the rest of the words in blue.
Then, we see a text saying ‘MEDIA are CONSTRUCTIONS,’ with a small white house with a red roof appearing to the right. This transitions into an image of a happy boy with a box of ‘Cereal,’ advertising a ‘free toy inside.’
The scene shifts again to an image of a woman smiling beside a bowl of cereal and strawberries, accompanied by the text, ‘A HEALTHY CHOICE!’
Next, we’re shown a picture of a bicycle. A bicycle that then appears on a billboard. This shifts to other billboards featuring a woman wearing sunglasses with the words ‘Oh la la!’ written on it, a bicycle parked on a tree-lined path with the words ‘GET MOVING’ written on it, and a woman wearing shorts standing next to a bicycle with the text ‘DISCOVER YOURSELF VISIT CALIFORNIA.’
After this, other billboards flash by with bicycles, street art, and text in different artistic font styles and messaging promoting bicycle riding and fashion. It then shows the text STAY ACTIVE with three kids with helmets riding bicycles.
Finally, the video ends with instructions to analyze the parts of a website, advertisement, or video to understand the creator’s goal and asks how the parts are put together.
