Digital Media Have Unexpected Audiences

The video opens with a digital logo, consisting of a white robot in a turquoise circle, followed by the text ‘Digital Literacy 101’, which then introduces the topic of the video: ‘Digital Media Have Unexpected Audiences’.

We then see an animation of four smiling people taking a selfie, followed by an animation that shows the photograph being posted on different devices and on a large billboard.

Next, there are various animations that show a girl at a computer creating a webpage dedicated to her cat. The webpage is then shared by her friends on different phones and, from there, it’s available to the entire world.

The video then emphasizes that, once content is published online, it is virtually impossible to erase it and that content can be seen by unexpected audiences, even if the content is deleted by the author.

Finally, the video ends with a white robot in front of a turquoise background with a pointer, asking some questions:

-When you share things online with friends:

-Who else might see it, and how?

-How can you limit access or prevent further sharing?

The video ends with the digital literacy logo, and the Media Smarts logo.
