Digital Media Experiences are Shaped by the Tools We Use

We begin with a white background. In the center, we see a circle with a turquoise-blue fill; a white cartoon robot with black pixelated eyes peaks out from the right side of the circle.

The background remains white as we see the title “Digital Literacy 101” written in a grey, sans-serif font, followed by the image of the cartoon robot in a circle, and a catchy, upbeat tune plays in the background. Subtitles below read, “Digital Media Experiences are Shaped by the Tools We Use”.

Then, the background changes to a solid teal color; we see two computer monitors side-by-side, in front of the monitor stands an animated, brown-skinned woman with a yellow bow tie, wearing a green blazer and virtual reality goggles; she holds a video game controller in her hands. The computer screens behind her display infographics. Next, we are shown additional computer monitors and devices, each displaying different webpages.

After that, we see a monitor displaying three pink monsters with different facial expressions. Next, we see a man with virtual reality goggles, sitting on an arm chair and playing a video game, followed by an image of a man working on a laptop, and a bodybuilder looking at his phone.

Then, a tan background as a cartoon man with dark skin and a beard peeps out from behind a white board. The scene transitions to two people holding a tablet and a ladder beside them; they work on a website layout design.

The background transitions to a purple hue, where we see a cartoon woman working at her computer; she then turns into a flow chart, demonstrating how web designers and creators spend time making digital media experiences.

The background changes to a periwinkle blue color, and we are shown font types and color swatches, followed by a snapshot of a web browser page in hues of red, black, and grey. We return to the flow chart of the cartoon woman, and after that, we see a collage of a bald man holding a cellphone and a woman smiling.

Then, we see a mobile phone displaying a Facebook app page; the woman’s image appears again, this time, blowing a bubble gum bubble. Next, we see the man holding a cellphone again and pressing the “thumbs up” button. The woman smiles as a collection of heart and thumbs-up images float around her.

The background is now teal; we see cartoon people taking selfies, followed by a woman happily working at her laptop, and a man walking and checking his cellphone; finally, we see a fishing hook baited with the thumbs-up symbol catching the cellphone user.

A stack of books is displayed as the scene shifts again, and the same robot that we saw at the beginning of the video points with a stick; written on the screen is “Be aware and be smart, Digital media smart”.

We see the “Digital Literacy 101” logo again. Then, the robot reappears on a teal background saying, “Think of a favorite website or app: What is it about the design that makes you come back to it?”. Finally, we are shown the “Digital Literacy 101” and “Media Smarts” logos.
