Myths About Creativity
The video opens with a medium shot of a man standing against a white wall, smiling warmly. He’s likely in his late 30s to early 40s, has short brown hair, blue eyes, and a full, well-groomed beard. He’s wearing a light blue button-down shirt. Behind him, there are overlapping translucent circles in pastel shades of blue, orange, and green.
As he speaks, the video cuts to a vector image showing a behind-the-scenes look at a film set; the lighting is low and the color palette is grayscale. We see various crew members operating cameras, adjusting lights, and holding a boom microphone. In the background, there’s a blurred group of people, possibly actors or onlookers, and a monitor on a stand is visible to the right, adding depth to the scene.
Next, the speaker reappears, continuing his dialogue against the same backdrop of colorful circles. The video shifts to display a framed white text box. Above the frame are various circles; blue, green, yellow, and orange, resembling the background motif. Inside the box, we read a quote, written in clear black text: “Once we believe that art is self-expression, then the individual can be criticized not only for his skill or lack of skill, but simply for being what he is.” Below the quote are the words “Keith Johnstone, Impro”.
The speaker returns, wearing the same light blue shirt, talking to us again. Suddenly, we see the same framed white text box. Inside the box, we read the words “CREATIVITY:” in navy blue. Under that, is a bullet point and “Transforming” also written in navy blue. Under that, there are two bullet points, one “Combining” and the other “Exploring”.
Another text box appears with this quote: “Focus on story first, technology second, and everything will fall into place.” Underneath this quote is the name Jason Ohler, and underneath that are the words “Digital Storytelling in the Classroom”.
The video concludes with a return to the man as he finishes his point. The video finishes with the Media Smarts logo, which is a rectangle with text that reads Media Smarts, and the same overlapping circle theme as the background.
