How to Play Risk
Watching the video, we start with a top-down view of the board game Risk, then a fair-skinned man with short brown hair, a light beard, and wearing a gray T-shirt that says ‘Triple S Games: Short, Strategic, Social,’ sits in front of a purple backdrop. In the background we can see two framed artworks of playing cards. Next, we’re looking at the game board: a world map that is brown, green, blue and red.
The man narrates as the steps to set up and play the game are shown:
– We see “Risk Secret Mission” and ‘Dragon’ cards are removed, then the cards are shuffled
– Then the pieces are separated, based on the number of players
– Each player takes an army color, then each player rolls a dice to decide who goes first
– Troops are placed to claim all 42 territories
– Players take turns placing infantry on their territory
– 5 Infantry can be changed into 1 Cavalry piece, and 10 infantry turns into 1 artillery piece to save space
The presenter describes how to play in the correct turn order, gaining troops based on territories controlled (divided by 3). He adds that you get a minimum of 3 troops even if you have less than 9 territories. We see that bonus troops come if you control an entire continent, as indicated on the board.
As the video continues, we learn that you must attack from a territory that has at least two troops, which is bordering an enemy territory. He points out the territories are connected, allowing you to attack from one side of the board to the other and that you must declare an attack. The demonstrator mentions how the attacker must roll one to three red die, and the defender rolls one to two blue die; they are physical numbers equal to the number of dice you are rolling. During attacks you must always leave one behind to guard the territory and then he runs through attack and defend scenarios and highlights the process. Then the players claim one territory card from the deck.
You are allowed to attack as many territories, and as many times, as you want, and if you capture at least one, you get the top card.
The presenter notes: Territory cards you collect can earn you bonus troops by trading a complete set that has one of each symbol. He points out it doesn’t matter who traded in which set, the values increase each time. When your last territory is taken, you are out, and you give the cards to the player who conquered you. The last player standing wins, then the Triple S Games logo with a copyright appears and the video ends.
