Un-Debate Activity

In your group, choose an important issue related to diversity in the news. Your class discussions and the articles you read are a great starting point! Once you have chosen a topic, research it thoroughly to prepare for your un-debate. Remember to consider arguments and evidence that are for and against the topic!

Once your research is complete, your group will be divided in half. One half will represent the “pro” side (supporting the topic) and the other half will represent the “con” side (against the topic). The sides will be randomly assigned, so be ready to speak for either position! With your team, come up with five statements that support your assigned position. Make sure to include reasons and credible evidence that support each statement! Please keep track of your notes in a Word document or a notebook.

Consensus Statements

Now that you have your statements, work together with your group’s other team to identify which statements you can both agree on. Keep a list of your common statements below. Don’t forget to include why each side agrees or disagrees! If your group cannot agree on at least five statements, re-group with your team to come up with five more statements that support your opinion. By the end of your discussion, you should have at least five statements that both teams agree on! Use the space below to record the statements your group agreed and disagreed with. Don’t forget to export your work as a Word document when you’re done!
