Around it is the SPHERE OF LEGITIMATE CONTROVERSY Things that are neither accepted by everyone nor rejected by most people.

On the outside is the SPHERE OF DEVIANCE Things so far outside of the mainstream they aren’t worth discussing.

Things in the SPHERE OF CONSENSUS or SPHERE OF DEVIANCE are not usually seen as newsworthy. If an issue in one of these spheres shows up in the news, only one side will be included.

If a story is in the SPHERE OF LEGITIMATE CONTROVERSY, it will probably be seen as newsworthy and both sides of the issue will be included.
