Volunteering Can Lead to Better Health

The video begins with the “Shared Time” logo, with a background of colorful squares and circles. Beneath the text is the tagline “Share Your Time. Share Yourself.” The text introduces the project, describing the collaboration between Volunteer Toronto and the Centre for Digital Storytelling to collect the stories of volunteers, beneficiaries of volunteers, and nonprofits in Toronto, starting in April 2011. The project aims to build the legacy of civic engagement in Toronto, documenting volunteer experiences and sharing them.

The video states, “This is one of their stories,” then the title screen, “New AI.” The video then shows peaches for sale at a farmer’s market. The scene then shifts to a black bird with a red stripe sitting in leafy branches. The next visual is a crack in the frozen ground.

The next scene is a close-up shot of an animated, cloudy scene of what seems to be a foggy day. It then pans out to reveal a fish underwater with a partially visible orange object in the background. The video then depicts a city street with a tall building and an overhead traffic light with a red light.

The skyline of Toronto, with its twinkling lights and the CN Tower, is shown in the evening. Next, a tunnel appears that seems to be an access to somewhere underground, with graffiti on the walls. The scene shifts to a path surrounded by trees with the sun shining through. The next scene reveals an old brick building, the interior shows a long hallway. It then pans out to show the exterior of the building, which is set in green surroundings.

The next image is a path surrounded by trees. Then a close up of the water and a turtle inside of it. The next view has a distant view of a path leading to a green area. The video then depicts a man walking toward the viewer with a sign that says, “Welcome to Evergreen Brick Works.” He’s holding a paint can. The video ends with the logo and text for Evergreen, along with volunteer contact information. Then it shows the logo again, but this time, the “Shared Time” project is “a project of” Volunteer Toronto and the Center for Digital Storytelling. The video indicates that the project is supported by the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
