Un-Debate Student Reflection

Following the un-debate activity, students will complete the reflection using the Mirror, Microscope, Binoculars framework. Introduce the framework to them, explaining that it encourages them to reflect from three perspectives:

• Mirror (personal): the mirror reflection gives the students the opportunity to reflect on their thoughts, behaviours and contributions, both individually (their strengths, weaknesses, values, and goals) and as a part of a team (how they interact with others, contribute to group dynamics, and collaborate toward shared goals).
• Microscope (detailed examination of the experience): the microscope gives students the opportunity to take a closer look at specific situations or interactions that stand out and analyze them in detail, both individually (how they approached their tasks, what worked well and what could be improved) and as a part of a team (the impact of their communication, role, or contribution on the outcome).
• Binoculars (broader context or greater picture): the binoculars reflection gives the students the opportunity to reflect on the broader impact of the activity, both individually (the teamwork and collaborative skills they used, how these skills and the issue they discussed might make a difference in real life situations), and globally (how their topic relates to important social, political, or ethical issues).
