Inflection and Framing

Have students navigate to the student chapter Inflection and Framing and have them complete the interactive exercise.

Ask: Do the words mean the same thing? Would they be happy to be called some of them? Would they be unhappy to be called some of them?

Point out that while the words in each set are synonyms (they all mean the same thing) or close to it, they have very different inflections. It’s good to be confident or slender, but bad to be egotistical or scrawny, while proud and underweight could be positive or negative depending on the context.
