Assessment: My Front Page

Now tell students that they are going to create their own front page, with the five stories that they think are most important.

Have students access the student chapter My Front Page.

Working either individually, in pairs or in groups at your discretion, have students create a mockup newspaper front page or home page.

They are to choose five news stories that they think are most important for people to see. These stories can come from any source including the stories in the front pages they have analyzed or other news exposure.

This can be done by collage using existing news sources (either printed or cut out from a print newspaper) or by using a graphics program. If you have already delivered the Digital Storytelling unit, you can have them create a five-frame digital story.

For each of the five news stories, students should write a short paragraph in which they explain why they feel it is newsworthy.
