The Hidden News

Have students access the student chapter The Hidden News. Have them read the text that is immediately visible (or read it with them) and then have them click or tap on the image to see what kinds of things might be “hidden” because they are either no longer under debate or outside the realm of what’s considered debatable.

Go through the text underneath the graphic and highlight:

• Different countries and communities place topics in different spheres
• Which sphere a topic is in can change over time

If there is a mismatch between the expert and public views on a topic, which sphere it’s in may lead to false consensus or false dissent.
